The Fulda Showtruck

In the Fulda high-tech tire forge, Showtrucks are rich in tradition for 20 years already. The three previous versions of the today operational Showtruck were all derived from standard models. They were painted with Fulda colour and always topically equipped, as for instance with an attachable show-stage (platform), but came apart from that "off the shelf".

On the occasion of Fulda’s 100th anniversary in the year 2000, one wanted to create something new and unique. A vehicle that is world-wide unique in its form and orientation, so that it thereby completely corresponds to the Fulda Slogan "German High Technology" and meets the requirements behind it.

The fascinating result of the only two years lasting construction phase was a mix that covered the advantages from the truck technique, techniques from the deluxe bus segment and practicable handling following the sports car range. In addition to that came the world-wide unique vehicle design, which caused surprise not only at the first traffic roll-out.

Thereby Fulda had built a truck, which engenders the clear identification to the company and visualises the high technology requirements on the one hand. On the other hand a concept was created which brings a substantial image increase of the Fulda brand to both ultimate consumers and tire dealers.

As Fulda decided to design a new trend-setting Showtruck, one had already a clear picture in mind: the vision of a technological masterpiece, the vision of a breath-taking optical novelty. The mission for designers, technicians and engineers was clear: to create a high-tech vehicle that has never been there before, state of the art, practicable, robust, long-living.

Aiming to make of the truck the showplace for unique performances, equipped with complete show techniques, the staging plateform was designed to become the highlight of the construction. Today, Fulda’s superlative Showtruck is a unique reflection of the brand and its products: technically a step ahead, reliable, durable and elegantly strong.

Supervised by professor James Kelly, Executive of the faculty Transportation-Design at the FH Pforzheim (college), a design student created the innovative design line of the Showtruck.

The basis of the tractor-trailer was provided by the MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG (commercial vehicles) in Munich.

Stefan George Becker Nieder-Olm, coordinated the entire implementation phase.

The Karosseriewerk Krämer (car body works) in Groß-Gerau converted the model into a functional unique Showtruck specimen.

With state-of-the-art materials Techart Automobildesign, Leonberg, designed the cabine and cockpit to a high-tech working space.

Volker Skopp from the Showtime Presentations GmbH, Bielefeld, provided specific show requirements that work with digitized control units of the audio-visual engineering.

Helge Jost, Manager of the Fulda marketing team Germany and responsible project leader, watched with the utmost care over the adherence of the Fulda colour design for an unmistakable brand appearance of the truck.
