Achieving a balanced tire

When comparing tires, it’s important to know that some performance factors conflict with each other. In other words, optimizing for one characteristic may come at the expense of another.

One tradeoff occurs between wet grip and fuel efficiency. By their nature, tread patterns that deliver good wet traction also generate greater tire-to-road friction. Consequently, it is challenging to create a tire that scores an A rating for both Fuel Efficiency and Wet Grip.

Our approach

We’re working towards the goal of an ‘A-A’ rated tire. But our primary objective remains the same: to develop balanced tires that deliver across all performance areas. As well as the EU ratings, this includes other important factors such as dry handling, wet handling, aquaplaning resistance and mileage.
