| Tread |
Rubber-coaled rayon or polyester designed to provide dimensional stability. It provides primaily traction and wear and protects the carcass underneath |
| Treadwear indicator |
A bar of rubber moulded into the base of the tread, positioned in at least three points around the tyres. It indicates when 1.6 mm of tread pattern is left. Note that 1.6 mm is the legal minimum in most European countries. |
| Tube |
A tubetype tyre requires the use of an inflatable inner tube. Modern car tyres are nowadays all tubeless. |
| Tubeless |
A tubeless tyre is usually a radial tyre. The innerliner protects against air loss in normal operation pressure. |
| Tyre pressure |
Tyre pressure is the measurement of the volume of air inside the tyre when it is inflated measured in bar. It is importnat to regularly check and maintain the vehicle manufacturer's recommended pressure. (See vehicle owner's manual). Never inflate a tyre to a greater pressure than the maximum that is indicated on the sidewall of the tyre. |
| Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) |
A method of monitoring tyre pressure from inside the car. Usually a device inside the tyre mounted on the rim that sends data to an onboard display to alert the driver of pressure loss in the tyre. It my also be based on the vehicle's ABS system. |
| Tyre repairs |
Tyre repairs should only be carried out by specially trained personnel using professional equipment. |
