Fulda, May 12, 2006 – Fulda, the German quality tyre manufacturer, has introduced Kristall Montero 2, a consequent further development of the popular Kristall Montero winter tire, which has been recommended in several independent winter tyre tests over the years. The Kristall Montero 2’s new winter silica tread compound provides the tyre with even better road contact in all weather conditions. This allows shorter braking distances and excellent traction on all road surfaces and in all weather conditions. Montero 2's well proven directional tread design leads to a high level of aquaplaning resistance.
Fulda regularly conducts market research surveys across Europe to analyze customer needs. "Especially for winter tyres, the safety requirements are very high", said Edwin Kuiper, Fulda Marketing Manager Europe. "Above all, drivers want tyres with shorter braking distances on all road surfaces. They also want tyres that offer high levels of grip and traction on icy and slushy winter roads, combined with a high level of aquaplaning resistance. These were the development goals for the Kristall Montero 2," explained Kuiper.
Winter road conditions are extremely challenging. Dry weather with low temperatures, rain and snowfall as well as ice – winter weather changes constantly. To guarantee optimum performance in these unpredictable conditions, Kristall Montero 2 incorporates various technologies.
Excellent grip and short braking distances on all surfaces
For the Kristall Montero 2 Fulda engineers have developed a new silica winter tread compound.
The new Kristall Montero 2 tread compound minimizes the effect of tread hardening under low temperatures. The tyre tread remains flexible and adapts itself to the road surface.
Kristall Montero 2 also features a high number of blades. These blades significantly increase the number of biting edges, allowing the tyre to connect effectively with the road surface.
Both technologies, the high number of blades and the new silica winter tread compound, result in short braking distances and good grip, especially on slippery surfaces.
High level of aquaplaning resistance
Kristall Montero 2's well proven directional tread pattern offers a high level of aquaplaning resistance. The V-shaped tread, with the circumferential centre grooves, eliminates the water effectively from the tread, allowing the tyre to maintain good contact to the road.
Winter wear indicator
The new Kristall Montero 2 is equipped with a special winter wear indicator allowing the driver to easily monitor the tyre's tread depth. The winter wear indicator will remind the driver when the tyres get to the recommended minimum tread depth of 4mm for winter driving.
'Snowflake' symbol
The Kristall Montero 2 is labelled with the official 'Snowflake' symbol. Only this symbol guarantees that the tyres are especially designed for winter conditions.
