Prepare your car for the winter

Car maintenance should be taken care off on a regular basis. Especially during the winter season we advise to regularly repeat the following maintenance operations on your car.

Car Wash

In cold winters when salt and brine is used to keep the street clean from ice and snow, it is important to have your car washed at least once per week. This includes regular underbody wash.

Car Lacquer

For an optimal protective effect a thorough lacquer cleaning with polish and following sealing is recommended. A smooth and protected lacquer surface is considerably less susceptible to salt, brine and dirt.

Never use a hard broom to remove snow. You will find more suitable soft brooms in accessories shops. A very soft hand-brush is best-suitable, too.

Caution! The removal of frozen snow and ice caps may leave scratches on panes and lacquer finish.

Window Panes

A regular cleaning of the panes from the inside and outside provides a good view. Remember not to use ice scrapers. They damage the pane surface and reduce the view. A defreezing solution can be an effective alternative. Applying it sparingly and regularly even increases its effectiveness.

In case of upcoming frost, it is advisable to put up the windscreen wipers. By freezing on the window panes, the fine rubber lips of the wipers can be damaged and lead to smudgy wiping results.

Caution! Beware of frosted panes. The wiper may only be activated if all ice caps have been removed. Otherwise the rubber lip of the windscreen wiper will be strongly affected.

Rubber bars

When checking your car, take also regularly care of the rubber bars. It’s helpful to treat frost and porosity with a special stick made of talcum powder or stag tallow. Before applying, it is important that the rubber bars must be absolutely dry. All door and framework bars have to be abraded evenly.

Plastic Parts

Also these components need regular maintenance, in order to prevent them from turning grey. It is advisable to treat regularly all the outside plastic parts with an accordingly special care product.

Car Interior

Doormats in the car, particularly rubber mats, should be taken out for drying. This prevents an intense formation of humidity and also works against steamy window panes. Wet clothes and umbrellas should also be removed as soon as possible from the car.

Tyre Maintenance

Tyres are high-tech products, which are perfectly harmonising with the operating conditions of modern vehicles. Therefore handling your tyres carefully is very important, maintain and check them regularly, including visual inspection and a careful, but thorough cleaning. Damage or cracks in the sidewall can only be found if the tyre is clean.
