Wet grip

Wet grip is an important consideration when buying new truck or bus tires. The EU rating is determined by measuring the tire’s braking distance on wet surfaces.

Wet grip is rated from A (category with the shortest braking distance) to F (category with the longest braking distance).

Category G is not used for commercial vehicles.

Why the wet grip rating matters

Tires with good wet grip will brake shorter on slippery roads. A set of A-rated tires will stop up to 30% shorter than a set of F-rated tires under full braking force. That’s a difference of up to 25 meters.*

Regardless of which tires you choose, you should always observe the recommended stopping distances when driving.

* The calculation is based on a typical truck with semi-trailer operating at 40 tonnes GTW traveling at 80km/h. Effects may vary according to the vehicle, driving conditions and test method adopted.
